Our Story
The Nail Shop was started in 2009 by Georgy, who had been working as a qualified Nail Tech and raising two small children (a boy and a girl). She loved trying the latest products and trends but was always frustrated that local suppliers only ever had a small nail section compared to hair and beauty. They were also always slow to stock the latest trends, if at all.
She was frustrated that many online suppliers were hard to contact and often just provided a basic photo with terrible descriptions of products. From her home office and garage she decided to start sourcing nail products that other suppliers had forgotten about. She committed to staying on top of the latest trends with excellent photos and descriptions. By running the business ethically and trying to resolve any issues quickly, sales grew and required leasing multiple storage units. She found this incredibly fulfilling and the flexibility allowed her to spend more time with her children.
In 2011, Paul changed to part-time at his job to spend time more time caring for their children. This allowed Georgy to spend more time on the business. In 2012 Paul's employer required that he return full-time and would not allow him to continue looking after their children. Paul made the decision to resign from his position and join Georgy with The Nail Shop. He studied a certificate 2 in nail technology while helping with the website and children.
By 2014 The Nail Shop had moved into a commercial warehouse, the product line expanded to over 1200 products and accumulated tens of thousands of positive reviews. In 2015 our third child was born (a happy little boy with Spina Bifida). He spent a lot of time strapped to our chest asleep while we packed parcels or talked with customers on the phone! We gained more distributorships while also developing and expanding our own brands.
By 2020 we were very well prepared for a hectic year. Bec and Belle were already part of the team and have been there every day to help respond to a very challenging year. We made it through 2020 bigger, better and stronger than ever. We have been able to continue supporting many charities and community events as well as further progress our own projects such as training, competitions and product development. We also expanded the amount of TAFEs and training organisations that trust us as a reliable supplier.
The things that have brought us this far have not been forgotten. We still hand write a thank you on every order, add free samples and spend extra time on the phone chatting with customers. And we still LOVE WHAT WE DO!
We look forward to an exciting future and invite you to browse our new products or follow us on social media.
